Paul edouard pierre louis10/31/2022 ![]() ![]() ![]() Paul (Cathédrale Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul) on 3 December 1911, Joseph was mortally wounded by a masonry stone that detached and fell from a ceiling vault, striking him on the head. While attending Sunday Mass in Nantes at the historic Cathedral of St. Joseph and his family are counted on six censuses of France in Nantes (1881, 1886, 1896, 1901, 1906, and 1911). Joseph and Anne had three sons, all of whom became physicians: In a 1907 court order, his personal finances were separated from his wife's estate, and the rights of community property by marriage were dissolved for their protection in the event of his personal bankruptcy. Between 19, he accumulated extremely large losses of principal on margin calls and from direct loans made to him by his brokerage firm, Mordrelle et Cie, in Nantes. Of course, the groom's parents did not attend their wedding.īesides being a doctor, Joseph dabbled in the stock market as small-time speculator (« boursicoteur »). Despite strenuous family objections, the couple went ahead with the wedding, marrying only a few weeks before Joseph's parents, brothers, and sisters left France with plans to make their new home in Canada. Edouard Ménager and Henriette Le Provost Ménager, refused to give their consent (« refus de donner leur consentement ») to the marriage because the bride and groom were first cousins once removed, related through their common ancestors Pierre Louis Dabin and Louise Claire Dabin. According to their marriage certificate, Joseph's parents, Dr. Joseph married Anne Marie Pauline Dabin in Bougenais, Loire-Atlantique, France, on 29 April 1903. During this time, in 1903, he earned his medical degree in Paris. He later served in 11th Medical Auxillary Reserve as a physician from November 1901 to September 1909. He served active duty in the French Army for 10 months, from November 1899 to September 1900.
